When I was a kid I was given this crazy book which claimed to be an alternative to colouring books; instead of giving the child a bunch of pre-drawn pictures to colour, the book gave them suggestions for things they could draw themselves. It was a brilliant way to stimulate a child's creativity.
Just recently I came across a copy of the book at work and took the liberty of photocopying a few pages. (Couldn't resist it!)
