Characters in progress

Having rigged most of my existing 3d characters in Blender, using Mixamo for most of the heavy lifting, I've decided to take a leaf from Disney's book and have a go at reproducing some of my 2d characters in 3d. This presents challenges as shapes that work very well in 2d (Mickey Mouse's ears, for example) are a little trickier to pull off in 3d. (In the case of Mickey Mouse's ears, they're always perfect circles no matter which way his head is turned in relation to the viewer, necessitating the rigging of his ears in 3d to rotate independently every time his head turns.)
These ones in progress are Arnold the Armadillo and his friend Mog the Cat, and right from the get go I've discovered inconsistencies in the shapes of these characters when viewed from the front and the side, resulting in some modifications having to be made to avoid the character looking horrible when viewed from other angles. The shape of the characters' eyes presents a particular challenge as they're more oval than round, but still have to move like spheres.
Arnold normally looks quite cute when I draw him, but for some reason he looks somewhat less so in three dimensions.
